Insulation
Want to help equipment stay cool? Insulators apply, remove, and repair insulation on industrial equipment, pipes, ductwork, or other mechanical systems such as heat exchangers, tanks, and vessels, to help control noise and maintain temperatures.
Responsibilities include reading blueprints and specifications to determine scopes of work, installing sheet metal around insulated pipes, equipment, building, duct with fasteners (screws) in order to protect the insulation from weather conditions or physical damage and measuring, mark, and cut wood and metallic materials to specifications.

If you do not have any industrial experience or training, look for “Helper 3” insulator positions. If you do have experience in this field, look for jobs with qualifications that match your skills.
Generally, positions fall into these categories:
Helper: Industrial Insulator Helpers assist with removal and installation of insulation on industrial piping and duct work systems. Positions range from entry level (Helper 3) more experienced helpers with an average of four to five years of experience.
Insulator: Industrial Insulators apply insulation, lagging, siding, to pipe, ducts, buildings, vessels and equipment as required by project specifications and industry standards. Requirements are listed by position, but generally four to five years of journeyman experience or significant helper experience is required.
Foremen: Industrial Insulator Foremen & General Foremen oversee the insulation to pipe, ducts, and equipment as required by specifications. Requires significant relevant construction experience and additional supervisory experience.
Training
At this time, industrial insulation services training is not available at Lamar State College (Port Arthur), Lamar State College (Orange) or the Lamar Institute of Technology.
There may be independent institutions offering this training in your area.
