Reinforced Ironwork/Rebar
Reinforced Ironworkers position and secure steel bars or mesh in concrete forms in order to reinforce concrete using a variety of fasteners, rod-bending machines, blowtorches, and hand tools.
Responsibilities include positioning and securing steel bars, rods, cables, or mesh in concrete forms, using fasteners, rod-bending machines, and hand tools, spacing and fastening together rods in forms according to blueprints, using wire and pliers and determining quantities, sizes, shapes, and locations of reinforcing rods from blueprints, sketches, or oral instructions.

If you do not have any industrial experience or training, look for “Helper 3” ironworker positions. If you do have experience in this field, look for jobs with qualifications that match your skills.
Generally, positions fall into these categories:
Helper: Reinforced Ironworker Helpers assist in the construction, fabrication and modification of steel bars and mesh using various types of fasteners and equipment in concrete forms to reinforce concrete structures. Positions range from entry level (Helper 3) more experienced helpers with an average of four to five years of experience.
Ironworker: Industrial Journeyman Ironworkers position and secure steel bars or mesh in concrete forms in order to reinforce concrete using a variety of fasteners, rod-bending machines, and tools. Requirements are listed by position, but generally four to five years of journeyman experience or significant helper experience is required.
Foreman: Foremen for Reinforced Ironworkers oversee and manage crews constructing rebar structures to specifications. Requires significant relevant construction experience and additional supervisory experience.
Training
These positions don’t require formal training, but if you need help getting ready to apply or interview, consider some soft skills courses to put your best foot forward.
The Golden Triangle Empowerment Center also offers an NCCER Level 1 introductory course that can help you develop skills and earn certifications.
