CONCRETE FINISHING

Do you like working with your hands and being part of the construction process? A concrete finisher, also known as a cement mason, is a tradesman who places, finishes, protects and repairs concrete in engineering and construction projects.

Responsibilities include pouring concrete structures, finishing and smoothing freshly poured concrete structures and dismantling prefabricated and wooden forms.

Jobs & Requirements

Interested in working as a mason? CCZJV will be hiring concrete finishers at all experience levels for the Golden Pass LNG project. Visit the Zachry Job Database to search for available positions and apply.

If you do not have any industrial experience or training, look for “Helper 3” concrete finisher positions. If you do have experience in this field, look for jobs with qualifications that match your skills.

Generally, positions fall into these categories:

  • Helper: Helper Concrete Finishers assist with smoothing and finishing surfaces of poured concrete, such as foundations, duct banks, columns, beams, and other concrete structures. Positions range from entry level (Helper 3) more experienced helpers with an average of four to five years of experience.

  • Concrete Finisher (levels 1-3): Concrete Finishers smooth and finish surfaces of poured concrete, such as foundations, duct banks, columns, beams, and other concrete structures. Requirements are listed by position, but generally four to five years of journeyman experience or significant helper experience is required.

  • Foreman: Foremen for Civil oversee and manage crews performing civil site work, provide leadership, and are responsible for scheduling, planning, coordinating, supervising and ensuring the safety, consistent and application of all Zachry policies and procedures. Requires significant relevant construction experience and additional supervisory experience.


Training

While not required, formal education can help jumpstart your career. Lamar State College - Port Arthur’s Industrial Concrete Laborer (NCCER Level 1) and the Golden Triangle Empowerment Center’s NCCER Level 1 courses teach students orientation to the trade, properties, handling and placement of concrete and the foundation of slab-on-grade to prepare them for NCCER Level 1 certification.

Lamar State College - PA:
