Rigging
Want to help get things moving? Riggers attach loads of equipment to cranes or structures using shackles, cables, chains, clamps or straps, employing pulleys, winches, lifts or chain hoists to get materials and equipment where they need to go.
Responsibilities include acting as safety observer on equipment lifts, planning lifts and inspecting rigging equipment, attaching loads using slings, chains, shackles, hooks, cables, and other rigging equipment and signaling equipment operators during lifts for directional or placement instructions.

If you do not have any industrial experience or training, look for “Helper 3” rigging positions. If you do have experience in this field, look for jobs with qualifications that match your skills.
Generally, positions fall into these categories:
Helper: Helper Riggers assist riggers in lifting and movement of heavy equipment and materials. They will inspect all applicable rigging and plan lifts using the weight of the load, lifting capacity of equipment, and other relative information needed to plan safely any heavy load movement. Positions range from entry level (Helper 3) more experienced helpers with an average of four to five years of experience.
Riggers: Riggers are responsible for lifting and moving heavy equipment and materials. They will inspect all applicable rigging, plan lifts using the weight of the load, lifting capacity of equipment, and other relative information needed to plan safely any heavy load movement. Requirements are listed by position, but generally four to five years of journeyman experience or significant helper experience is required.
Foreman: Foremen are responsible for the coordinating and supervision of lifting and movement of heavy equipment and materials. Requires significant relevant construction experience and additional supervisory experience.
Training
The Golden Triangle Empowerment Center also offers an NCCER Level 1 introductory course that can help you develop skills and earn certifications.

How much does it cost? $2,500, but you may qualify for scholarships
