CARPENTRY

Commercial and industrial carpenters construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures. These carpenters are involved in many different kinds of construction, from buildings to highways and bridges to power plants.

Carpenters need manual dexterity, good eye-hand coordination, physical fitness and a good sense of balance.

ELECTRICAL SERVICES

Do you like making connections? Industrial electricians install, troubleshoot and repair wiring, electrical equipment and other devices used in the industrial environment, such as motors, transformers, control systems, industrial instruments, programmable logic controllers and lighting systems.

EQUIPMENT OPERATION

Like cranes and trucks? There are many positions available for equipment operators in an industrial construction site: moving equipment, dirt and other materials.

INSTRUMENTATION

Are you a problem solver with a knack for small details and math? Instrumentation may be the perfect craft profession for you. Instrument fitters and technicians perform key installation and maintenance functions in piping, tubing, fasteners and metallurgy.

Entry-level positions available without experience

INSULATION

Want to help people and equipment stay cool? Insulation workers install and replace the materials used to insulate buildings and their mechanical systems to help control and maintain temperature. Depending on the type of work, insulation workers learn their trade informally on the job or through a formal apprenticeship program.

Entry-level positions available without experience

LABOR

Are you interested in working in industrial construction, but don’t have experience or training? General labor is a good place to start - laborers assist with various processes and jobs around the construction site and can learn about different crafts and the construction process.

CONCRETE FINISHING

Do you like working with your hands and being part of the construction process? A concrete finisher, also known as a cement mason, is a tradesman who places, finishes, protects and repairs concrete in engineering and construction projects. Most cement masons learn informally on the job, but some learn their trade through a formal apprenticeship or certification process.

Entry-level positions available without experience

MECHANICAL SERVICES

Do you like fixing things? Industrial mechanicals help keep things running smoothly by maintaining machinery and troubleshooting and repairing broken machines.

MILLWRIGHT

If you are mechanically inclined, enjoy the challenge of working in a fast-paced environment and are an excellent problem solver, consider becoming a millwright. Millwrights install, dismantle, repair, reassemble and move machinery in factories, power plants and construction sites. Most millwrights learn informally on the job or through formal apprenticeship programs.

PAINTING

Industrial Painters put on the finishing touches by cleaning, painting and varnishing different surface types.

Entry-level positions available without experience

PIPEFITTING

Are you a little bit of a perfectionist? Do you enjoy reading blueprints and making something useful? Consider training to become a pipefitter. Pipefitters/fabricators plan and install detailed pipe systems for commercial and industrial projects. These pipes may carry water, chemicals or gases to the crucial building systems. Pipefitters/fabricators use many tools to cut and bend pipes to exact specifications. Pipefitters typically learn their trade through a certification process.

REINFORCED IRONWORK/REBAR

Reinforced Ironworkers position and secure steel bars or mesh in concrete forms in order to reinforce concrete using a variety of fasteners, rod-bending machines, blowtorches, and hand tools.

Entry-level positions available without experience

RIGGING

Want to help get things moving? Riggers attach loads of equipment to cranes or structures using shackles, cables, chains, clamps or straps, employing pulleys, winches, lifts or chain hoists to get materials and equipment where they need to go.

Entry-level positions available without experience

SCAFFOLD BUILDING

Scaffold builders position and dismantle wooden structures, such as concrete forms, scaffolds, tunnel and sewer supports and build temporary frame shelters, according to sketches, blueprints or company standards. Most scaffold builders learn their trade informally on the job or through a formal apprenticeship program.

Entry-level positions available without experience

STRUCTURAL STEEL IRONWORK

Structural steel ironworkers plan, fabricate and install iron and steel structures according to specifications. Position responsibilities include connecting columns, beams, girders and other steel members into specific locations for support. Using specialized techniques, Ironworkers will ensure proper alignment, positions, and quality of structural steel structures before permanent bolting and riveting takes place.

Entry-level positions available without experience

SURVEYING

Surveyors take measurements and determine boundaries necessary to the construction process and provide data relevant to the shape, contour, gravitation, location, elevation, or dimension of land or land features on or near the earth's surface for engineering, mapmaking, mining, land evaluation, and other purposes.

Entry-level positions available without experience

TRANSPORTATION

Do you like traveling and being on the open road? Drivers can deliver goods and transport people from place to place, sometimes spanning several states. Most driving jobs require a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

Commercial Driver’s license required for all positions

WAREHOUSING

Many thousands of items are needed to complete a construction project - from prefabricated equipment to the smallest nuts and bolts. Warehousing and inventory specialists make sure items and tools are kept in order, so they’re ready to be used when needed.

Entry-level positions available without experience

WELDING

Welders join objects together with heat and install many types of metal equipment, including pipe, structural supports and others. There are several different types of welding that require different levels of education and perform different duties. Some welding positions require completion of formal training programs or certifications.
